With Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo she was visiting the 70th Hannover Messe trade show. They both underscored the quality of German-Polish relations.

During the traditional tour of the fair with Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo, Chancellor Angela Merkel praised the innovative force of German companies. The Hannover Messe clearly demonstrates that Industry 4.0 is not only a project; it is already being put into practice, she said. The Chancellor expressed her pleasure to see many medium-sized German companies "taking the leap forward into a new industrial world and offering innovative solutions".

German-Polish cooperation is successful

Poland is the partner country of this year’s Hannover Messe trade fair; 150 Polish exhibitors have come to Hannover’s fair grounds. After opening the joint German-Polish stand, Angela Merkel pointed to Germany’s excellent relations with its neighbour. Many joint projects are a positive sign and open the way to more economic cooperation. "This is a good day for German-Polish cooperation," said Angela Merkel. The central concern of the partner country is to promote innovative businesses, as well as focusing on the reindustrialisation of Poland.

Shared values and wide-ranging relations mean that common challenges can be seen not only as challenges, Angela Merkel said on Sunday at the opening of the trade fair. They also make it possible to address and master the challenges together. Liberty, democracy and the rule of law, said Angela Merkel, are the shared fundamental values on the basis of which "we can live together and flourish in Europe".

Angela Merkel clearly rejects protectionism

In her opening speech Angela Merkel also spoke out against the isolationist ideas being touted by some countries. It is, of course, an effort to constantly have to hold your own against international competitors. "Nevertheless, we believe that liberty and openness are the best direction to take and the direction that will allow us all to succeed together." The Chancellor continued, "That is why we clearly reject isolationism and protectionism, because they always involve losses in the long term."

The world’s largest industrial showcase

This year again the Hannover Messe 2017 is dedicated to integrated industry, with the main theme of the event being "Integrated Industry – Creating Value". More than 6,500 exhibitors from 75 countries will be showcasing technologies for the factories and energy systems of the future at the world’s largest industrial trade fair from 24 to 28 April.

The Hannover Messe trade fair is the world’s most important industry trade fair and the largest showcase for capital goods anywhere on the planet: 190,000 trade visitors, one third of them from outside Germany, 5 million business contacts, 5,200 exhibitors from 75 countries – the 2016 figures speak for themselves.

Robots that are as easy to operate as a smartphone. Machines that learn from mistakes. Energy systems that are digitally operated and networked. And at the heart of everything: people. The Hannover Messe 2017 demonstrates how companies can identify the potentials offered by digitalisation, even with limited resources, and harness them for themselves.

Industry 4.0 – experience a driver of growth

The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy is exhibiting at this year’s Hannover Messe once again, with interesting exhibits and an extensive range of advisory services. Its motto this year is "Digitalisation is the driver of growth – experience Industry 4.0 ". Alongside Industry 4.0 the Ministry spotlights energy efficiency, electric mobility and innovations.

The German government supports innovative force and the translation of research into practice through technology transfer, initiatives, promotion programmes and networks. At the joint stand in Hall 2 at Stand C28 a large number of companies and institutions are showing research and development projects that have been financed under a variety of the Ministry’s programmes and initiatives.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research will be represented in Hall 2 as well with a joint stand. In Hannover a team of researchers from Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences demonstrate how robots can be integrated in an intelligent home where they can take on traditional everyday chores. At Stand B22 visitors can also see in action search and rescue robots, sensitive trunks – and a new gut instinct.

Industry 4.0 involves the intelligent integration of people, machines and industrial processes via the Internet. Intelligent factories are the Fourth Industrial Revolution, following steam engines, the assembly line and computers.
