The Chancellor has expressed her deep shock at the attacks in Paris that have cost dozens of lives. "At this time my thoughts are with the victims of what appear to have been terrorist attacks, with their families and with all the people in Paris," declared Angela Merkel. Federal Foreign Minster Frank-Walter Steinmeier has also declared himself appalled by the events in Paris.

"I am deeply shocked by the news and the images reaching us from Paris," said Angela Merkel late on Friday evening. The German government, she said, is in close contact with the French government and has conveyed to it the sympathy and solidarity of the people in Germany. The Chancellor will meet the press on Saturday morning and give a statement about the attacks in Paris.

Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has declared himself appalled by the attacks in Paris. On Twitter, the Federal Foreign Office declared that he was horrified by the news of the attacks in Paris. The Federal Foreign Minister is quoted as saying, "We stand should to shoulder with France!"

On Friday Paris was shaken by several attacks. Armed attacks and explosions killed well over one hundred people. Bombs exploded close to the Stade de France, where Germany’s national football team was playing France. In the wake of the attacks French President François Hollande declared a state of emergency in Paris.
