Horror at terrorism in Nigeria "That is barbaric violence"

The German government has expressed its horror at the actions of the Boko Haram terrorist group in Nigeria. This barbaric violence must be condemned in the strongest possible terms, said government spokesperson Steffen Seibert in Berlin. There is still no trace of the more than 200 schoolgirls abducted.

The actions of the Islamic militants Boko Haram amount to inhuman terrorism, stressed government spokesperson Steffen Seibert in Berlin. More than 200 schoolgirls were abducted three weeks ago. Another attack of the terrorist organisation recently cost hundreds of innocent lives. "That is barbaric violence," said Steffen Seibert. These acts of violence cannot be reconciled with any concept of human morality and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

Chancellor expresses her sympathy

The Chancellor has written to the Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan expressing her deepest sympathy with the families who fear for the lives of their daughters. She also sent her condolences to the families of the victims of the most recent terrorist attacks, said Steffen Seibert. Inhuman terrorism, whether it targets Christians or Muslims, children or adults, is a serious threat to peace within the country and to Nigeria’s development.

Support for "bring back our girls"

Germany is supporting the worldwide campaign "bring back our girls". Germany will help wherever it can in the fight against fundamentalist terrorism and to defend human rights, stressed the government spokesperson.

Boko Haram fighters attacked a school in Chibok in the northern Nigerian state of Borno three weeks ago. A few days ago the terrorist group was responsible for a bloodbath in the north-east of the country that left several hundred people dead.

So far there has been no sign of the abducted girls. In many parts of the world thousands of people have demonstrated over the last few days to protest against the actions of the terrorist group. An online campaign has also been launched. The campaign #"bring back our girls" now has the support of numerous well-known personalities.
