Katarina Barley heads the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs and has been acting Minister of Labour and Social Affairs since 28 September 2017. She is a lawyer by profession, and has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2013. From 2015 to 2017 she was Secretary General of the SPD. She was born in Cologne in 1968.
