The three countries are key states on the continent and the Federal Chancellor hopes to learn more about the region’s issues during her visit.
Events focussing on several relevant state and society topics are on the programme. For example, the Federal Chancellor will visit an agricultural institute, give a talk at the University of Nairobi and meet with experts on renewable energies.
In Luanda (Angola), the Federal Chancellor will inaugurate the German-Angolan economic conference. She will hold talks with representatives from civil society and with the leader of the opposition party UNITA, Isaias Samakuva.
In Nigeria the Federal Chancellor will talk with representatives from religious communities. To conclude her visit, the Federal Chancellor will meet with the Economic Community of West African States’ (ECOWAS) Commission President James Victor Gbeho.
The Federal Chancellor’s journey will also be shaped by the Federal Government’s new Concept for Africa. The Federal Cabinet adopted the concept in June 2011 in order to further improve German-African cooperation. At the same time, Germany wants to embrace its responsibility towards the continent and deepen its partnership with Africans.
